The assistant
What can the assistant do?
It answers questions about that computer using only what it has measured: why it's slow, how much space can be freed, how the disks are doing, what's worth doing. On request it generates the report, runs the cleanup and sets up the backup, always after you confirm with a button. The rest is on the The assistant page.
Is it artificial intelligence?
No. No artificial intelligence model runs inside it: it's a hand-written rules engine that recognizes the question and builds the answer from the values it reads at that moment. It can't make anything up, because it has nothing to make it up with. If a question falls outside its field, like “do I have a virus?”, it says so.
What PC does the assistant need?
Whatever it takes to run Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and the .NET 8 runtime, which the installer adds on its own if it's missing. There's no extra download, no model to keep on the disk and no memory requirement beyond the program itself: the assistant is inside the installer's 11 MB.
Do I need the internet to use the assistant?
Not for the assistant: the engine is inside the program and works even with the network unplugged. The internet is needed for two things: to activate the license and for the occasional check that confirms it, and for TurboFix updates.
Do I need an account or a subscription for the assistant?
No, neither: there's no profile to create and no password to choose. The license stays free and lifetime, and the key arrives by email. The assistant is already inside the program: nothing to activate, nothing to download.
How long does it need to watch the PC before it's useful?
On space, startup and disk health, answers come from day one. Comparisons over time (“is it worse than a month ago?”) need about two weeks of observation: until then, the comparison isn't made and it says so, rather than producing a trend from too little data. If a disk counter is getting worse, though, the warning comes right away.
How is it different from other PC cleaners?
In one thing, but a big one: it doesn't invent problems. Traditional cleaners count every registry entry and every cookie just to show a big number. TurboFix follows the opposite rule, “when in doubt, leave it alone”: if the PC is fine, it says so. No blanket registry cleaning, no unwanted programs, no popups, no data sold on. The item-by-item comparison is on the page An alternative to PC cleaners.
Cost and license
Is TurboFix free?
Yes, and genuinely free. The key you receive is Lifetime Premium, at no charge: every feature unlocked, no expiration, no renewal. There is no paid version and none is planned. No ads and no purchase prompts on every screen: the philosophy is “no catches”. The details are in the Terms.
Does the license expire? What if I lose it?
It doesn't expire: it's free and lifetime, updates included. If you lose it, requesting it again from the download page with the same address sends the same key again, not a new one. If the email doesn't arrive, you can write to supporto@turbofix.it. All the details are on the License page.
Can I use it at work or in a business?
For personal use there are no restrictions. For use on several workstations within a business, just write to supporto@turbofix.it: we'll work out a solution together.
How do I get support?
You can write at any time to supporto@turbofix.it. To suggest a new feature there's the form on the Contact page: we read every message.
Safety and data
Is it safe to use?
Yes. TurboFix works on temporary files, caches, histories and entries that are no longer needed, and always shows what it will do first. It doesn't do the “registry cleaning” of traditional programs: orphaned entries can only be removed on request, from the advanced tools, with confirmation and a restore point. The only third-party component is the PawnIO driver, which reads temperatures: it's explained under “Does it install anything else?”.
Will it delete important files?
No. TurboFix is designed to remove only items that are safe to delete, such as temporary files and caches. It doesn't touch documents, photos or personal files. Before every cleanup, the list of what will be removed is visible and can be checked.
Does the cleanup send files to the Recycle Bin?
No, and it's only fair to say so clearly: the files from the cleanup are deleted for real. The reason is that one of the categories is precisely “empty the Recycle Bin”, so putting them in there would make no sense. Before proceeding, TurboFix shows what it's about to remove, category by category, and waits for confirmation. If the Recycle Bin still holds files you need, get them back first.
Does the assistant send my data anywhere?
No. The assistant works inside the computer: your questions and the contents of the device are not transmitted. With the user's explicit consent, and only if turned on, the category of the question is sent, for example “why is it slow”, never the text you typed.
Does it collect my data?
The analysis, the cleanup operations and the questions to the assistant stay on the computer: the contents of the disk are not sent anywhere, and the assistant works inside the computer, with no artificial intelligence model. A few things do go out, and it's only fair to list them:
- the email address you leave to receive the key;
- the technical activation data: the key, the version and a fingerprint of the computer that can't be traced back to the user;
- error reports, stripped of personal data before they're sent: on by default, switched off with one click;
- anonymous statistics and the installation count, only if you turn them on: they start off;
- the review, if you write one.
Nothing else. All the details, with legal bases and retention periods, are on the Privacy page.
Where does it save the backup, and where does the password go?
You choose the destination: a network folder (a NAS) or an external drive. If the destination requires a username and password, the password is handed to the Windows credential vault: it never ends up in any readable file, and the assistant never asks for it in the conversation, because whatever you type there stays on screen. The first backup copies everything, the following ones only the files that changed.
Installation and updates
What are the requirements?
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit, and Microsoft's .NET 8 Desktop runtime, which is required to run the program: if it isn't present, the installer adds it automatically. You don't need a powerful computer: TurboFix was made precisely for tired PCs. No account, no credit card, and nothing else is installed alongside it.
Which versions of Windows does it run on?
TurboFix is designed for Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Those are the versions it's developed and tested on.
Does it install anything else?
Two components, installed automatically. Microsoft's .NET 8 Desktop runtime, required to run the program and installed only if it isn't already there. And the PawnIO driver, which reads hardware temperatures: it's installed along with TurboFix, with no dialogs; if it fails, TurboFix installs anyway and only the temperatures are unavailable. No manual steps are required.
Why does Windows show a warning when the installer starts?
Windows SmartScreen may show a warning (“Windows protected your PC”) when the installer starts. It happens because the app isn't yet signed with a paid code-signing certificate, not because it's dangerous. To continue, just click More info and then Run anyway.
How does TurboFix update?
TurboFix updates itself: it checks for a new version and offers it inside the app, no need to go looking.
If an update fails (it happens), you're not stuck: just download TurboFix from the website and install it over the existing version. License, settings and PC history stay where they are, and from then on updates are automatic again.
Does it work on Mac or Linux?
No: TurboFix is written for Windows 10 and 11 and there's no Mac or Linux version. Much of what it does, the PC history, disk health, startup programs, is tied to the way Windows works, so it's not a door that opens by changing a few lines.
How do I uninstall it?
Like any other program: Windows Settings → Apps → TurboFix → Uninstall. It leaves no services running and doesn't ask why. If automatic backup was set up, the scheduled task is removed along with the program; the files already saved stay where they are, because they belong to whoever created them.
The program folder may remain in Program Files, containing the logs TurboFix writes while it works: it can be deleted by hand with no consequences, and in the next version we'll remove it ourselves.
